Baby steps

I've been watching some YouTube videos recently and one by Lavendaire caught my attention as she was talking about adjusting your mindset.  She was saying if you start something already thinking you're not going to stick to it, chances are you won't.

This is something I do all the time ... going to start healthy eating - I know I won't stick to it because I like chocolate / cake / whatever.  I really should exercise - I don't enjoy it so I know I won't stick to it.

It really made me stop and think about how I sabotage myself.  Why can't I stick to healthy eating - it's just food, it's not going to hurt me if I don't have chocolate / cake / etc., in fact I'll more than likely feel better for it.  What about exercise?  I know I don't enjoy it but if I start slowly maybe I could build up until I'm comfortable doing something.  I've always said I'd like to do yoga but then don't  - because I'm not very flexible / am overweight. I'm not going to become more flexible if I don't do anything about it.

So, this week I've started making small changes.  I've been eating 3 meals a day and not having snacks in between. If I'm hungry by 12 - instead of having something to tide me over till lunch time, I've had my fruit and then lunch shortly after and I can go through the afternoon not worrying about needing anything else.  Am I cutting out all chocolate and cake etc - no, I'm not.  In fact, I made some lemon and poppy seed muffins yesterday and am looking forward to having one with my tea this afternoon.  If I stop everything, I know I'll think I'm being hard done by.  Being able to have something now and then makes it feel like I'm not missing out.

What about exercise you ask?  I'm happy to say I've made a start, I'm doing 2 sets of 20 sit ups and 2 sets of 10 arm curls, each morning.  I know it's not a lot but it is a start! I'm not going to go all out and set up an exercise routine because chances are I wouldn't do it.  By making it something quick and manageable, I'm ok with doing it.  The results will be slower but I'm ok with that.

So as you can see, I'm starting baby steps and I hope to continue with them and add a few more as the days and weeks go by.

Why not check in again sometime to see how I'm getting on.

  1. It sounds like you're doing the right thing and starting slowly then working you way up. I too am one for starting something, knowing that I'm not going to stick it out. I hope your routine goes well. Those muffins look amazing. I hope you enjoyed them with your tea :0)
